How do I find the right size for my dog?
The right size depends on the product and your dog's current measurements. Therefore, do not rely solely on breed, weight or the size your dog wears in another model.
You can find the measurements and adjustment ranges on the product page. For many collars, harnesses and coats, you can also use the size guide via “Which size fits my dog?”. Enter the requested measurements there and a suitable size will be displayed.
It is best to measure your dog again before every order – especially if they are still growing, their weight has changed or you are unsure between two sizes.
How do I measure my dog correctly?
Have your dog stand as straight as possible and measure with a flexible tape measure. It should lie against the body without digging in.
Different measurements may be important depending on the product:
- A – Neck circumference: Measure where the collar or the neck area of the harness will sit.
- B – Abdominal or chest circumference: Measure around the ribcage. Follow the measuring instructions for the respective product.
- C – Back length: Measure from the base of the neck along the back to the base of the tail.
The measurements you need for your chosen product are stated on the product page and, where applicable, in the size guide. Do not simply use the measurements of an existing collar or harness – your dog's current body measurements are what matter.
Which collar size is right?
First measure the neck circumference where the collar should sit. Then compare the measurement with the adjustment range specified on the product page for the respective size.
For example, if an adjustment range of 33 to 37 cm is specified, your dog's neck circumference should be within this range. The adjustment range is what matters – not just the designation S, M or the total length of the collar.
If possible, choose a size that still leaves some room for adjustment. The collar should fit securely, but should not dig in or be unnecessarily loose.

Which harness size fits and how do I recognise the correct fit?
Depending on the harness model, you will need different measurements – often the neck and abdominal or chest circumference. Therefore, always use the measuring instructions and size guide for the desired dog harness. Sizes may differ from one model to another.
A well-fitting harness lies securely against the body without restricting your dog's movement. Make sure that:
- nothing digs into the neck or ribcage,
- the straps do not lie directly in the armpits,
- the shoulders and front legs can move freely,
- the harness does not shift significantly while walking and
- your dog cannot slip backwards out of the harness.
Also check the fit while walking. In addition, follow the instructions for the respective model, as the cut and adjustment options differ.
Do you have an ERGOMOVE PRO™? You can find fitting information on the ERGOMOVE PRO™ page. If you like, send us a photo of your dog wearing the harness – standing straight and fully from the side. Also provide us with the neck and abdominal circumference as well as the chest and back strap measurements. You can reach us at service@wirliebenhunter.de.
What size do I need for a dog coat?
The back length is particularly important for a dog coat. Depending on the model, the neck and abdominal or chest circumference may also be relevant.
Have your dog stand as straight as possible and measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Compare the measurements with the details for the desired coat and use the size guide, if available.
The coat should cover the back well without extending beyond the base of the tail or restricting your dog's movement while walking. The abdominal area, leg openings and fastenings should also fit comfortably and allow sufficient freedom of movement.
If your dog falls between two sizes, use the cut and adjustment options of the respective model as a guide. Discover our dog clothing.
What size should a dog bed be?
Your dog should be able to lie comfortably, turn around and – depending on their preferred sleeping position – stretch out. Observe how they like to sleep and roughly measure the amount of space they need.
Then compare the measurement with the details for the desired dog bed. For beds with a high or padded edge, the usable lying area may be smaller than the external dimensions.
If your dog likes to curl up closely, the bed can be more compact. If they like to stretch out while sleeping, there should be more space accordingly. You can find the exact measurements on the respective product page.
